Caerphilly Town 2035 Cultural Programming

The Caerphilly Town 2035 Placemaking Plan is a bold and ambitious vision for the future of the town centre that will enhance and regenerate the area between now and 2035. The project is being delivered by multiple stakeholders with the community at its heart.

Ginkgo Projects is working closely with Stride Treglown to integrate cultural programming into the development of a master plan and key town centre regeneration projects.

A Cultural Strategy for Caerphilly 2035

A cultural strategy delivery plan is in development for Caerphilly 2035 Placemaking Plan (www.caerphillytown2035.co.uk).  In 2023 a high level strategic approach was developed, to focus on animating the public realm: helping to enhance connectivity and identity; developing event-based activity to allow ideas to be tested and capacity built for welcoming audiences; and lastly, to support the scoping and development of a new anchor Cultural Centre and associated activity at Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall.

A new community interest company, Cynefin Caerffili, has since been established to explore the potential for redeveloping the existing Hall into a vibrant, independent and sustainable regional cultural hub in the heart of Caerphilly.

The Caerphilly Cultural Centre will be a place where art, entertainment, culture and creative enterprise meet, forming a revitalised, community-driven cultural destination for the town. Cynefin has also just established a new meanwhile space, Y Banc, on Cardiff Road, to allow for testing ideas, building activity and audiences.

Caerphilly 2035 ‘Culture Hive’ group

We are supporting this process and have formed a small ‘Culture Hive’ to develop and test ideas for an artist or cultural residency programme that can be embedded within the Placemaking Plan.

The town-wide artist residency programme will play an integral role in the activation of the public realm and supporting key regeneration projects within the town centre. We aim to develop a cultural programme centred around collaborative research, cultural events, and permanent projects/installations.  This will inspire and reveal existing new cultural narratives as the town develops over the coming years.
