LO42 Avon Street Artist Commission: RTiiiKA

Artist: RTiiiKA / Rosa ter Kuile
Client: GMI Construction Group
Date: 2026
Location: Avon Street, Bristol

Bristol-based visual artist RTiiiKA (pronounced “ah-teeka”), also known as Rosa ter Kuile, is creating a new public artwork for the Avon Street walkway, inspired by the site’s distinctive archways and the nearby river.

Renowned for an abstract style that combines image and text, simple characters and bold, graphic forms, RTiiiKA’s practice is rooted in making work for public space, with a strong focus on accessibility, playfulness and connection.

Avon Street is a site shaped by its industrial past, defined by materials such as brick, steel and rivets. While the river is a prominent presence, it is largely hidden from view. The new walkway will open this space up to the public for the first time, revealing the rhythm of the arches beneath the bridge, which act as natural connectors through the site.

RTiiiKA’s concept responds directly to these architectural and environmental features, using the arches, water and shifting perspectives to guide people through the space. The artwork creates moments of discovery, revealing what is usually unseen and encouraging exploration through movement, pause and changing viewpoints.

Designed to be experienced from either direction, the work allows each journey to begin, pause or end at any point, reflecting the flow of past, present and future embedded within the site.

This is one of two artworks commissions, designed to enhance and activate the public realm that borders the Avon Street railway tunnel and waterfront.
