Cheswick is a housing development on the North Bristol / South Gloucestershire border. It has a mixed-use centre that will include commercial and retail units along a high street and central square. An artist and a writer have been commissioned for two projects. The first project is a collaboration between the design team for the development and Dutch artist Maarten de Reus, to create art work for the public spaces in the centre of the development. It is intended that these works will help to create social spaces for the new residents and visitors to Cheswick. The second project is a programme of activities led by writer Claire Williamson. This aims to highlight the local and natural histories of the site, as well as creating an opportunity for nearby residents to contribute to the identity of Cheswick, through text-based public art commissions and naming projects.
