Hello from Ginkgo Projects,

It’s been a summer of listening: to rivers and landscapes, to local voices and more-than-human worlds. Through foraging, walking, music-making and storytelling, our projects invite new ways of connecting with place and with each other. Read on for opportunities to get involved and for updates from Bedminster, Lockleaze, Taunton and beyond.

Tonal - Rivers Beyond Sewage podcast

A new podcast by Feral Practice tunes in to the River Tone in Somerset and water issues nationally.

Recorded on riverbank walks, the podcast features a rich mix of voices from politicians and ecologists to water industry professionals, artists, farmers, activists, poets, lawyers, and spiritual practitioners.

Created by artist Fiona Macdonald, who works with humans and nonhumans as Feral Practice, Tonal is the outcome of a bursary from the Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation (FCDI), produced by Ginkgo Projects.

A new piece of music inspired by the River Malago

From July to October 2025, local music-makers and residents with a strong connection to the river are invited to create a new composition celebrating Bedminster’s stories, sounds and ecology.

Common Threads: A Bedminster project

Common Threads is a new residency project by Leeza Awojobi that explores the fabric of local life, weaving together stories, cultures and perspectives from across Bedminster. At the heart of the project is Swapping Chairs, a series of informal, social gifting experiences that bring neighbours together to exchange views, experiences, and histories.

‘Makers Marks’ for a new ceramic artwork along Bristol’s Feeder Canal

Artist Matthew Raw is deep in production for his new artwork along Bristol’s Feeder Canal. Featuring permanent marks created by public participants in recent ‘Potter’s Mark’ workshops, the final clay tiles will form a handrail for a new walkway along the Canal.

‘Made in Bonnington’ community events

A new collaborative, community-engaged project by artists Charli Clark and Sylvia Rimat, based at the new Bonnington Walk community building and garden in Lockleaze, Bristol. Rooted in creativity, care and connection, the project explores the relationships between people, place, and the more-than-human world.

ON OUR RADAR

Edinburgh Art Festival launches this week

From modern myths to queer history, the political body to environmental collectivity, the 2025 Edinburgh Art Festival (7 – 24 August) invites you to witness, reflect and participate in narratives that have fought to be remembered.

Highlight: who will be remembered here is a tender film which draws intimate connections between queer people across the span of Scottish history. Lewis Hetherington and CJ Mahony invited four queer writers to respond to Historic Environment Scotland sites, creating performances exploring the resonances and dissonances between who they are and the sites they visited. Screening daily at EAF Pavilion.
