Newton Abbot Community Hospital

Ginkgo has acted as art advisers to the Trust during the process of procuring the new hospital through the Private Finance Initiative. We developed the Hospital Arts Policy and Output Specifications for the bidding process. Four artists created integrated interventions within the hospital to help create a sense of identity and place, drawing upon its locality.

Katayoun Pasban Dowlatshahi developed the interior design for a new Sanctuary space. Matt Chivers created four sculptural interventions on the approach to the main entrance. Furniture designer, Robert Kilvington has designed a new screen for the main courtyard.

This project was delivered prior to the opening of the hospital in summer 2008.

Ginkgo are currently working with South Devon College on developing a Work Based Learning Project in order to procure new artwork for the interior spaces of the hospital.  The new artwork will aid with legibility and wayfinding around the hospital whilst contributing to the skills development and opportunities for the local community.
