Ginkgo lead a landscape design team with LT Studio together with Keith Rushforth (Arboricultural Consultant) and Peter Thoday (Peter Thoday Associates) to develop a masterplan and landscape management plan for the restoration and redevelopment of the Oldway Mansion grounds, one of Devons most significant estates.

The whole of the site is a Grade II designated Italianate garden and managed woodland designed by the French landscape architect Achille Duchene. Originally the home of the sewing machine entrepreneur – Isaac Singer, the substantial house and grounds are now being restored through sensitive restoration and redevelopment to incorporate a four star 57 bed boutique hotel with spa and fitness facilities and new build residential development.

Our approach is based on an understanding that a practical, sustainable and sensitive approach is required to restore the historic grounds back to a functional landscape that will support a range of commercial, residential and leisure uses within an historic landscape that still retains its public access.
